How I handle your data.

Plain English, no legalese sludge. This is what I collect, why I collect it, who else sees it, and the rights you have over it under UK GDPR.

02 What I collect, and why

I only collect what I need to do the job. Four sources:

Contact form

When you fill in the contact form, I collect your name, email, phone number (if you give it), and the message you send. I use this to reply to your enquiry and, if it turns into a quote, to deliver the work.

  • Lawful basis: Legitimate interests (responding to enquiries about my services) and, if it becomes an order, pre-contract necessity.
  • Retention: Three years from our last contact for general enquiries. Quote and project records are kept for six years after the project closes, in line with HMRC requirements.

Website analytics

I use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is being used — which pages people read, where they came from, broadly where in the world they are, and on what kind of device. I don't see individuals; I see patterns.

  • Data collected: IP address (truncated by Google), session information, page views, device and browser type, approximate location (city level).
  • Lawful basis: Consent (you choose via the cookie banner). If you decline, no analytics data is collected from your visit.
  • Retention: 14 months in Google Analytics, then automatically deleted.

Chatbot

The chatbot is an automated assistant. When you type a message, that message is sent to Anthropic's Claude API via my Cloudflare Worker, and the reply is sent back to you. I don't store chatbot conversations on my own systems. Don't share sensitive personal information in the chatbot — it's there to answer general questions about my services, not to handle private enquiries. Use the contact form or email for anything sensitive.

  • Lawful basis: Legitimate interests (helping you understand my services).
  • Retention: Anthropic retains chatbot inputs and outputs for up to 30 days for trust and safety, then deletes them.

03 Who else sees your data

I work alone and I don't sell, rent, or share your data with anyone for marketing. Where data is processed by a third party as part of running the site, I've listed them here.

Anthropic
Powers the chatbot. Processes the messages you type into it. anthropic.com/legal/privacy
Cloudflare
Runs the Worker that proxies chatbot requests, and provides DDoS protection. cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
Google
Google Analytics 4 (when you've consented) and Google Fonts. policies.google.com/privacy
Netlify
Hosts the website and stores server logs. netlify.com/privacy

I may also share data where I'm legally required to — for example, in response to a lawful request from a regulator, court, or law enforcement agency.

04 International transfers

The processors above are based in the United States. Transfers of personal data to the US are made under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which the UK Government has determined provides adequate protection. Each processor listed is certified or has equivalent safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses) in place.

05 Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights over your personal data:

  • Access — you can ask for a copy of the data I hold about you.
  • Rectification — you can ask me to correct anything that's wrong.
  • Erasure — you can ask me to delete your data (within limits — I have to keep some records for HMRC).
  • Restriction — you can ask me to stop processing your data while a question is sorted out.
  • Portability — you can ask for your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent — where I rely on consent (analytics), you can withdraw it at any time.

To exercise any of these, email hello@decor-elevate.co.uk. I'll respond within one month, usually sooner.

06 Cookies

The site uses analytics cookies (Google Analytics) and they only fire if you've consented via the banner on your first visit. There's a full breakdown on the Cookie Policy page, and you can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.

07 Complaints

If you think I've handled your data badly, please tell me first — I'd rather sort it directly. But you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator.

08 Changes to this policy

If anything material changes — what I collect, who I share it with, how long I keep it — I'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes get flagged at the top of the page for a short period.
